DECs could take energy saving efforts into the workplace

While many people spend half of their waking life in the office, it can be difficult to transfer energy saving aspirations into the workplace.

However, a campaign currently underway could see Display Energy Certificates (DECs) go on show in all offices with a floor space in excess of 1,000sqm.

The proposal comes from the construction and building specialist BSRIA, which is supporting plans formulated initially by Cal Bailed of independent maintenance and property life cycle management firm NG Bailey.

BSRIA suggests that displaying DECs in all buildings will "create the necessary awareness among occupiers which will drive a desire for buildings with better energy performance among tenants".
The move could also help employees to learn whether their individual energy saving desires are being reflected by the space in which they spend their working day.
